The curative properties of tea tree oil are being hailed as a cure for many a cosmetic and health ailment. The uses of tea tree oil are many. Be it to reduce acne and skin lesions or heal yeast infections and chronic cystitis, tea tree oil products are used in shampoos, acne treatments and creams.

Tea tree oil Use

Tea tree oil is yellowish -green oil extracted from the leaves of the melaleuca tree, native to Australia. The main chemical components of tea tree oil are Terpinen-4-ol, Cymene, Pinene, Terpinene, and Cineole. Terpinen4-ol is the main ingredient that lends the anti-microbial properties. Tea tree oil is steam distilled from the tree's leaves.

Though there are many varieties within the Melaleuca and Leptospermum genera, TTO (Tea Tree Oil) is extracted mainly from the Melaleuca alternifolia. This oil has medicinal and restorative properties that range from anti-bacterial and antiseptic to fungicidal and cosmetic. Taking tea tree oil in small doses can be toxic and lead to potentially fatal conditions. Keep products containing tea tree oil out of reach of children.

Benefits of tea tree oil
  • Tea tree oil is a strong organic solvent that can penetrate the skin unlike many other products. This helps in clearing skin infections such as boils, warts, sores and ulcers.
  • Another benefit of tea tree oil is that it is capable of killing stubborn germs such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherischia coli. It doesn't damage healthy cells and works well with other organic matter.
  • Fungal infections can be treated with tea tree oil. Be it fungal nail infection or athlete's foot or vaginal infections, tea tree oil has healing properties that can help in reducing inflammation and killing the bacteria.
  • Hemorrhoids and candidiasis can be treated with tea tree oil. Suppositories made of hydrogenated vegetable oils and tea tree oil are inserted into the rectum or vagina to treat the conditions.
  • Massaging tea tree oil on sore muscles and joint injuries helps alleviate discomfort and pain.
  • The benefits of tea tree oil extend to treating gum inflammation and reducing plaque.

Skin problems such as warts, insect bites, rashes, cold sores and blisters can benefit with tea tree oil use. This oil blends easily with the skin's oils and alters the chemical barriers of the skin thereby making it inhospitable for the growth of fungi and other organisms.

When tea tree oil is applied to the nail surface, it aids in treating nail fungus. This topical antiseptic is particularly useful against fungus and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Tea tree oil is used to reduce the effects of fungal infections of the mouth and throat. Tea tree oil is also effective in treating vaginal infections.

Tea tree oil is used to promote healing and reduce chances of scarring. Warts that are caused by virus can be treated with tea tree oil. A few drops of tea tree oil are added to hot water and the vapors are inhaled to experience relief from sinus and bronchial infections.
