Margarita Recipe

The basic margarita recipe consists of three ingredients - Tequila, Cointreau (triple sec) and fresh lime juice. The true art of making margaritas lies in the ideal ratios and the pizzaz with which it is served. The ratio for margarita mix can vary from equal parts of each ingredient to 3:2:1 tequila: cointreau: lime juice. The triple sec is an orange liqueur that adds a sweet-and sour flavor to the cocktail. Different flavors can be substituted for the triple sec to make interesting variations. Shake the margarita with ice and serve in salt rimmed glasses. You can add Grand Marnier instead of Triple sec for concocting an exotic margarita.


Blue Margarita Recipe: The Curacaco is what adds the blue color to this blue ocean margarita. Take 4 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce triple sec, ¼ cup fresh lime juice, 2 ounces blue curacaco and 1tsp sugar. Blend in a shaker with plenty of ice.

Golden Margarita: A golden margarita needs anjeo tequila and Grand Marnier. Shake with sour mix, lime juice and plenty of ice.

Margarita Recipe with Grand Marnier: Margarita recipes are being tweaked for individual preferences and now you have the golden margarita with Grand Marnier instead of Triple Sec.


1 1/2 ounce Tequila

1 ounce Grand Marnier

1/4 ounce fresh lime juice



Mix all the ingredients. Add crushed ice and blend till smooth.


Frozen Margarita: Whip up a frozen margarita with limeade, tequila and triple sec. Blend with lots of ice cubes till it looks slushy. Do not overdo the ice when blending your frozen margaritas - the trick is to have barely enough to float in the liquid. You can add frozen fruit for a variation. You can whip up a strawberry margarita with 1 oz. Tequila, ½ oz. Triple sec. Dash of grenadine and sour mix along with pureed strawberries. Margarita Recipe with orange juice: With summer round the corner, nothing to beat the heat better than with a margarita with orange juice. The citrus flavor is refreshing.

3 cups Tequila

1/2 oz Triple Sec

1 cup Lime Juice

4 cups Orange Juice

Mix orange and lime juice. Add the Triple Sec and Tequila. Chill it for about half hour. Coat the edges of the margarita glasses with salt. Pour into each glass and add orange wedge on the glass rim. You can try an orange liqueur instead of Triple Sec for a change.


Margarita Recipe with Agave Nectar: If you love your margaritas but want to skip a few added calories, try it with Agave nectar.

2 ounces tequila

3/4 ounces lime juice

3/4 ounces Agave nectar



Dilute the Agave nectar with equal parts of water. Mix with lime juice and tequila. Add shredded ice and shake well. Pour into margarita glasses rimmed with salt. Serve with a wedge of lime. Squeeze fresh lime juice for the perfect margarita.
