Reiki Energy therapy

Mikao Usui in Japan formulated Reiki during the early 20th century. A Japanese form of healing, Reiki addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. Reiki is classified as an energy therapy. Its basic tenet is that everything is ultimately made of energy. When energy is subjected to disturbances, in and around the body, it results in illness. To cure the illness, one has to improve the flow and balance the energy. Reiki perceives energetic component in every living being and works on all energetic levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. According to Reiki, the cause for illness exists in one of these levels. As all the levels are interlinked, it is treated as a whole and treatment is targeted to provide true reiki healing by bringing back all levels into harmony.

Reiki healing

Reiki healing is widely sought after to heal physical and mental ailments. Be it illness of the mind or body, reiki healing concentrates in recognizing the source of ailment and not just the symptoms. Mostly, acute injuries heal very quickly but chronic illness demand more time. Due to paucity of time, it is not possible to reverse certain acute diseases. However, few sessions of reiki healing bring about a sense of peace, the sufferer feels calmer and relaxed. Also, a state of acceptance sets in the individual's mind.

Typically, reiki healing is found to be most effective for stress reduction, pain relief, headaches, stomach upsets, back problems, weight reduction, asthma- respiratory problems, boosting the immune system, improving creativity, memory and mental clarity, to promote calmness etc. Individuals with ailments such as arthritis, rheumatism, epilepsy, migraine, sinusitis, heart diseases and eye related problems have also found reiki healing effective.

There are special treatments designed to meet the demands of pregnant women, nursing mothers and even newborn babies. Most common woes related to pregnancy such as nausea, back pain, muscle pain, lack of sleep and exhaustion can be well managed and controlled through reiki healing. Reiki healing has been found effective for premature babies to gain weight. Reiki healing works well with babies suffering from severe cold, cough, infections and stomach-related disorders. Besides treating physical ailments, reiki healing promotes over-all wellbeing.

Hands-on energy healing and distant or remote healing, both types of reiki healing are natural, holistic and complementary in nature. In both, the hands of the reiki practitioner hold primary importance. The hands function as conduits for energy to flow through. It begins with scanning body to understand areas of reduced vitality.

'Hands on' contact or by placing the hands slightly above the body, subtle energy flows through hands to specific parts of the body, corrects imbalances and charges body with positive energy. During the process negative energy breaks apart. Energy blockages are repaired, blocked pathways get healed, and energetic balance is restored, thus allowing free flow of energy in a healthy and natural way.

Reiki massage

Reiki and normal massage are construed to be the same. Technically, reiki healing and normal massage are different. Reiki a Japanese form of healing works with subtle energy fields surrounding the body. Massage is primarily physical, involves rubbing or kneading different body parts with cream, oil or lotion and results in a rejuvenated feeling. Both are hands-on therapy and together make a good combination to augment quality of living.

Reiki healing practitioners are trained in massages. Unlike typical massages, reiki healing practitioners trained in massages do not work on the tissues and muscles of the client. Reiki massage begins at the head and works its way through the seven different charkas or the centers of energy of the human body. Reiki massage session involves using different hand placements in order to bring out the body's ability to heal itself. Reiki massage is found to be most effective to relieve pain and cure illness of different areas of the body.

Reiki massage is suitable for all. There is ample evidence that reiki massage has specifically helped people with relaxation problems, children and adults with attention deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD), those with mental and emotional problems. Experiences and benefits derived from a reiki massage session are similar to a reiki healing session.

  • Drastic reduction in stress
  • Extreme sense of relaxation
  • Destroys energy blockages
  • Detoxifies body.
  • Rejuvenated feeling.
  • Creates a sense of balance.
  • Promotes a sense of well-being.

Reiki therapy

Reiki is practiced as a complementary therapy for treatment of disease or disability, physical or mental. Conventional healing therapies involve using medicines or any other mechanism to heal disease. Reiki therapy is minus medicines or tools. The hands of reiki therapist act as channel to send healing energy into the body of the client.

Certified reiki practitioners conduct reiki therapy. Reiki therapy doesn't necessarily involve touching client's body though standard reiki therapy is done with practitioner's hand touching client body. Some therapists like to maintain a distance of 2-4 inches from the client's body. Both methods continue to yield good results.

A typical reiki therapy session begins with the practitioner engaging the client in a detailed conversation. The reiki practitioner intends to understand specific purpose if any for availing reiki therapy. A full-body therapy session can last for 30 minutes or more and to a large extent depends upon the capabilities of the practitioner. Subsequent sessions will be targeted towards specific body parts/area with problem. For a minimum of 10 minutes, energy is made to flow through the specific body parts/area.

A typical reiki therapy session proceeds in the following manner.
  • The client is asked to sit or lie down on a massage table, mat or couch.
  • Footwear may have to be removed.
  • Loose fitting clothing of natural fiber may be recommended
  • Lights dimmed to create a sense of tranquility.
  • Soft music may be played
  • Questions related to purpose of reiki therapy will be asked
  • Client will be encouraged to take deep breaths
  • Permission to begin therapy will be requested
  • Reiki symbols will be used to begin reiki therapy.
  • Therapist will place hands on or above patient.
  • Therapy begins from the head and works way down.
  • The process continues for one or two minutes or longer.
  • Reiki is then performed on the backside of the client's body

Reiki symbols

Reiki practitioners use reiki symbols to activate and enhance reiki energy flow. Reiki symbols are used during reiki sessions to 'connect' the client to the energy. By using reiki symbols, the users belief increases and assists in achieving intended results. The practitioner visualizes the reiki symbol and connects with it to the energies it represents. Traditionally, reiki practitioners are taught four reiki symbols. A fifth reiki symbol also exists. The fifth symbol is not taught to reiki students until a specific level in reiki is achieved.

The power symbol Cho Ku Rei: The power symbol is the first reiki symbol used by reiki practitioners at the beginning of reiki healing session. It denotes power. It means - power of the universe, come here now. It is used to increase levels of reiki energy generated within and direct energy to physical body.

Mental, emotional symbol Sei Hei ki: The mental reiki symbol Sei Hei ki means 'Mind be still'. Reiki practitioners use this symbol when treating a client with emotional and stress related problems. Sei Hei Ki purifies, cleanses and protects the mind. The symbol is powerful enough to clear negative energy present in the whole system. After completing reiki sessions wherein Sei Hei Ki has been used, the client is likely to experience a deep sense of relaxation, and all emotional tress such as anxiety, depression and anger totally wiped away.

The distance symbol Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen: The distance reiki symbol Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen means 'Transcend Time and Space'. Reiki practitioners use this symbol to send Reiki energy across the globe. The symbol facilitates reiki healing to an individual who is far away. The unique feature of this symbol is that it can be reserved for future use or can be sent to the past to amend certain issues, which in turn can correct present situations. Post reiki sessions wherein Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen has been used, both the reiki practitioner and the client experience a sense of spiritual connection between them.

Master teacher symbol Dai ko Mio: Master teacher symbol Dai Ko Mio means 'Great Shining Light'. When used, Dai ko Mio helps to enhance ones wisdom. Reiki practitioners use this symbol both for attunement and for healing purposes.

Guide to selecting reiki healer

The purpose for receiving reiki-healing, reiki therapy, reiki massage may relate to the physical body or the spiritual mind.To get desired results, contact certified reiki practitioners who have certified training and certifications. In the absence of a formal government licensing procedure for reiki practitioners in the United States, the credentials of reiki practitioners gain more importance while choosing a reiki healer. The healer should not only be well trained and certified but also should be trustworthy.
