Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is situated on the southeast coast of Florida in the east-central division of Broward County and is centrally located between Miami and Palm Beach. It is the seventh largest city of Florida and is hemmed in by the Atlantic Ocean, New river and picturesque inland waterways. In earlier days Fort Lauderdale was an economy strictly based on tourism but with the wonderful climate all through the year many business establishments are willing to re-locate here.

Fort Lauderdale is well connected by road; visitors can either take a bus or car to reach this place. Fort Lauderdale is well connected by Amtrak and Tri-Rail from Miami and Florida. Within Fort Lauderdale, travel by local taxis is common but traveling by water taxis is great fun. Horse travel and carriage travel is equally fun and a great way to explore the city.


Fort Lauderdale enjoys humid subtropical climate all through the year. November through March is cold and the rest of the year is warm. Popular among the water sports are snorkeling and diving as people get a chance to have a look at the sunken ships, tropical sea life and the reefs of coral lying underwater. Many events such as the boat show, air and sea show are hosted every year here. The beaches of Fort Lauderdale have been certified as the 'Most Innovative Beaches' for cleanliness and have been named as 'Blue Wave beaches' its safety and user-friendliness. Hollywood Beach, Dania Beach, Deerfield Beach, Hallandale Beach are other beaches offering breathtaking panorama and water sports.


International swimming hall of fame and museum: This museum houses memorabilia of the Olympic medals of Johny Weissmuller, special display on Greg Louganis and Mark Spitz etc. This museum honors the worlds greatest aquatic hero, the casino pool here was built in 1920.


Fort Lauderdale River walk: Famous as 'Florida's Most Beautiful Mile', this stretch encompasses the history and the current scenario of Fort Lauderdale. Butterfly garden, Esplanade Park, restaurants, clement panorama, shops and museums are all connected on this river walk.


Bonnet house: Located on the beach front and spread over 35 acres; this museum speaks of the rich culture of South Florida. This museum is open all through the year except from mid-August to September, Mondays are weekly holidays.


Fort Lauderdale Museum of art: A happening place for lovers of cultural activities, there are numerous exhibitions and classes in art conducted in a regular basis.


Fort Lauderdale historical museum: The history of Fort Lauderdale and the areas of South Florida is well illustrated here. Few of Fort Lauderdale's oldest structures like the New River Inn, Philomen Bryan House etc stand here majestically.


Old Dillard cultural arts Museum: The latest museum of Fort Lauderdale built on the old Dillard high school is a center for culture and education. Various galleries here exhibit various aspects of Fort Lauderdale.


Museum of discovery and science: This museum serves as the right experience for children to enjoy and learn at the same time. It is a kid friendly museum with over 200 breathtaking exhibits.


Antique car museum: Packard cars dating back to 1900's are the key attraction of this museum, there are 22 such cars and all of them in working condition. This museum also has a gallery dedicated to the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt along with numerous memorabilia, antique dashboard clocks, exceptional carburetors, custom gear shift knobs etc.


Stranahan House: Earlier a trading post, later residence to Frank and Ivy Stranahan, this place is where the history of Fort Lauderdale began. This museum is considered a very historical sight and it features paintings and furnishings of the early 1900 era. It is open from Wednesday through Saturday for public and is open for a few hours on Sundays.


Seminole Okalee Indian village: The Seminole tribes living here portray the culture and traditions of ancient America. The arts and crafts shop, antique shop, clothing, baskets etc are prime attractions; native food is served at a snack bar located here. The snake and alligator shows attract lots of visitors.


Hugh Taylor Birch State Park: Famous as Birch State Park, this park has mangroves, freshwater lagoon and many species of endangered animals and plants. Visitors can enjoy nature trails, paths for biking, walking, jogging etc and bird watching.
