These exercise bands appear like giant rubber bands and allow you to challenge your muscles with a range of exercises. Typically a resistance exercise band is secured around a door knob or banister. Pull back till you feel the resistance. Adjust it to suit your exercises. Wrap it around your ankles and you can give your legs, butt and thighs a good workout. An exercise band, if used correctly can provide full-body strength training workout. Resistance exercise bands do not provide for workout of larger body parts. Besides the resistance they offer is not uniform throughout the entire exercise regimen.

Some resistance exercise bands are color coded to indicate resistance levels. Accessories such as door anchors and exercise handles are also available.

Exercise bands can come in flat or rounded rubber or elastic strips. They can often be shortened to add to the resistance. It is essential that the exercise band be tied to a sturdy object. If the resistance exercise band comes loose, it can cause serious injury.
